Weekly Digest Email

Weekly digest emails are summaries of the week's new content in your spaces and the top level community. These summaries are sent directly to each user's email account on one day of the week and include the new content created during the last week in spaces a user belongs to and the top level community. Each user can choose which spaces to include in their weekly new content email. The user must have receive email notifications and weekly digest enabled in User Preferences to receive the weekly digest.

How to Customize the Weekly Digest

To customize the weekly digest, go to Control Panel > System > Email Templates and edit the Communifire.WeeklyDigestEmail template. This template contains the content that appears at the top and bottom of the digest.

In the text body, {{WEEKLY_DIGEST}} is replaced by a plain text version of the weekly digest.

In the HTML body, {{SPACES_ACTIVITY_DIGEST}} is replaced by the system properties WeeklyDigestSpaceListTemplate, WeeklyDigestTypeListTemplate, and WeeklyDigestContentListTemplate. To customize the space section, content list section, and digest item templates, go to Control Panel > System > System Properties and edit those properties.

Weekly Digest Settings

To change weekly digest settings and customize the space section and digest item templates, go to Control Panel > System > System Properties. In the left menu, click Digest Settings. Edit the following properties.

Setting Description
EnableWeeklyDigestEmails Sets whether to enable weekly activity emails in all the spaces that a user is a member of or not
DigestEmailsTime

Sets time in UTC to send the digest email to users (in hours:minutes, 24-hour format). 

You can customize different times for Daily and Weekly digests by entering two times, separated by a comma. If you enter one time then it will be used for both weekly and daily digests. If you enter two then the first will be used for daily, the second for weekly. If you change DigestEmailsTime, you may need to wait a day before you receive the digest at the new time.

Note: The digest will not send twice in a 12-hour period.
WeeklyDigestContentListTemplate

Sets the template for repeated spaces in digest emails
Available mnemonics:

  • {{ACTIVITY_DATE}} - Replaced by when the content was published
  • {{COMMENT_COUNT}} - Replaced by how many comments the content has
  • {{CONTENT_IMAGE}} - Replaced by the featured image of the content, wrapped in an <img> tag
  • {{CONTENT_IMAGE_STYLE}} - Replaced by display:none; . This mnemonic is used to hide the placeholder image for content that doesn't have a featured image. Add this mnemonic in the style attribute of the div element surrounding {{CONTENT_IMAGE}} .
  • {{CONTENT_IMAGE_URL}} - Replaced by the URL of the content's featured image. Use this mnemonic instead of {{CONTENT_IMAGE}} if you need to apply inline styles to the image, such as to set image sizes for Outlook. (See Change Image Sizes in the Weekly Digest Email for Outlook)
  • {{CONTENT_SUMMARY}} - Replaced by the content summary
  • {{CONTENT_TITLE}} - Replaced by the content title
  • {{CONTENT_URL}} - Replaced by the content URL
  • {{PROFILE_URL}} - Replaced by the author's profile URL
  • {{USER_DISPLAY_NAME}} - Replaced by the author's display name
  • {{VIEWCOUNT}} - Replaced by the content's view count
WeeklyDigestEntityTypesCSV Sets the entity types to include (in order) in the weekly digest email. See Content Type Codes below. 
WeeklyDigestFeaturedOnly Sets whether the weekly digest includes only featured content or all new content in the spaces
WeeklyDigestPopularCount Sets the number of most viewed items to show for each content type in each space
WeeklyDigestSpaceListTemplate

Sets the template for repeated activity items in daily digest email
Available mnemonics:

  • {{DIGEST_ITEMS}} - Replaced by WeeklyDigestTypeListTemplate
  • {{SPACE_NAME}} - Replaced by the space name
  • {{SPACE_URL}} - Replaced by the space URL

Sets the template for repeated entity types in weekly digest email
Available mnemonics:

  • {{CONTENT_LIST}} - Replaced by WeeklyDigestContentListTemplate
  • {{ENTITY_TYPE_NAME}} - Replaced by the content type name (e.g. "Articles", "Blogs", etc)
  • {{FEATURED_TEXT}} - Replaced by the word "Featured" (This text can be customized in Localized Content by editing the resource GlobalFeaturedText)
  • {{NEW_CONTENT_COUNT}} - Replaced by the number of pieces of content
  • {{POPULAR_LIST}} - Replaced by a list of content that was popular that week
  • {{POPULAR_TEXT}} - Replaced by the phrase "Popular This Week" (This text can be customized in Localized Content by editing the resource PopularWeekText)
WeeklyEmailDay Sets the day of the week (Monday = 1, Tuesday = 2, etc) when the weekly email should be sent

How to Send a Test Weekly Digest Email

You can send a test weekly digest email to a user.

  1. Go to Control Panel > System >Email Templates.
  2. Edit the Communifire.WeeklyDigestEmail template.
  3. At the bottom of the edit page is a search bar. Search for then select a user.
  4. Click Send Test Email.

How to Unsubscribe From All Digest Emails

You can unsubscribe from the digest emails of all spaces by clicking the link at the bottom of the email.

If you do not want users to be able to unsubscribe from all spaces, go to Control Panel > System > Email Templates , edit the Communifire.WeeklyDigestEmail template, and remove the last sentence.

How to Change Image Sizes in the Weekly Digest Email for Outlook

Images in the weekly digest email may appear large in Outlook. Follow the steps below to fix this.

  1. Go to Control Panel > System > System Properties
  2. Search for WeeklyDigestContentListTemplate
  3. Edit the property
  4. Find {{CONTENT_IMAGE}} 
  5. Replace it with <img style="width:100%;" width="100" height="75" src="{{CONTENT_IMAGE_URL}}"/> 
  6. Click Save
