The Activity Stream is the home for all the latest updates in a space. The space Activity Stream brings together all the activity in a space in one centralized location, ensuring people never miss out on important content, developments, and conversations.
The right-hand side includes the following:
Wall updates are a simple and effective way to communicate with people and groups.
Links and Videos in wall posts
There's a wealth of content on the Internet that you can link to and share in your community. In addition to linking to external content, links to videos posted to popular video sites like YouTube, Metacafe, and Vimeo will play right in the Activity Stream.
Note: You can remove the URL from the What's on your mind box. The video or link will remain. You can replace the URL with any message you want.
To change the thumbnail image for the video or link, click the left or right arrow to cycle through the available images. Click the box next to "No Thumbnail" to choose no image.
You can choose how photos are added to wall posts as a sitewide configuration. The WallPostPhotoLocation system property determines whether photos are displayed inline within wall posts or saved directly to a selected Space album.
To configure how photos are added, navigate to Control Panel > System > System Properties and set the WallPostPhotoLocation property to "body" or "album."
Adding Photos Inline
Set the WallPostPhotoLocation system property to "body" to enable photos to be embedded inline within wall posts. Inline photo embedding is supported for wall posts on your profile, other users’ walls, and Space walls.
To add a photo, click the photo icon in the toolbar. You can drag and drop an image, upload it from your desktop, or select one from your albums to embed it within the wall post.
Saving Wall Photos to Albums
Set the WallPostPhotoLocation system property to "album" to save photos added to wall posts directly to a selected Space album.
Files in wall posts
Files can also be added to wall posts, providing an organized way to share additional content. To upload a file, click the file icon in the toolbar. Files uploaded to wall posts are saved in the Files > Activity Stream Files folder by default unless you select another file folder during the upload process.
@Mention people in wall posts
@Mentions are a great way to get someone’s attention or direct other readers to a particular user. When you tag a person with an @mention, they will receive a notification. @Mentions are public, visible to everyone, and link to the user's profile.
#hashtags in wall posts
Use #hashtags to categorize and add context to your posts.
When someone clicks on the hashtag in your wall post, they will be taken to a search screen showing other site content tagged with the same keyword.
Commenting on wall posts
Comments allow community members to have a discussion with you and with each other. When you write a new post, members can respond by adding a comment. You will receive a notification when your post receives a comment or when someone replies to one of your comments.
Rich text formatting can be used when adding comments, allowing you to format text and include bullet points, emojis, and more. This ensures clear and consistent communication across different types of content in the Activity Stream.
Note: To use rich text formatting in comments, ensure the Enable rich text HTML editor in comments setting is enabled in General Settings.
You can add photos to comments by clicking the photo icon in the toolbar. Photos in comments can only be added to wall posts in a Space, not to content created by other users. To enable this feature, go to System Properties > WallPostPhotoLocation and set it to "body".
Recognition activity also appears in the space Activity Stream when a recognition program has the space selected in membership criteria and the "Include in Space Activity Stream" setting enabled. (See Add Recognition Program.)
Regardless of the recognition program, you can set spaces to display all badge activity from space members. Go to Control Panel > System > System Properties and add the space ID in ShowAllBadgeActivitySpaceIDs.
You can filter the activity stream to display wall posts, new content, recognition activity, or all.
How to Post on a User's WallYou can post to another user's Activity Stream if they're connected to you. They'll receive a notification about the wall post. Post on someone's wall to ask questions, start a conversation, or follow up on something.
