Your Activity Stream is the central hub for all the latest updates in your spaces. The Activity Stream shows a real-time stream of the latest activity and posts in all your spaces. Your connections' activity also appears on your Activity Stream, so you can keep up with what they're working on and who they're working with. The Activity Stream brings together everything that's important to you, ensuring you never miss out on new content and activity in your spaces.
From the Activity Stream, you can view and interact with new content. For example, you can see up to 9 photos added to an album, play videos directly from the feed, like content, comment on wall posts, and jump to a detailed view of posted content and user profiles.
The right column includes the following widgets:
Wall updates are a simple and effective way to communicate with people and groups.
There's a wealth of content on the Internet that you can link to and share in your community. In addition to linking to external content, links to videos posted to popular video sites like YouTube, Metacafe and Vimeo will play directly from within the Activity Stream.
Note: If you like you can remove the URL from the What's on your mind box. The video or link will remain. You can replace the URL with any message you want.
To change the thumbnail image for the video or link, click the left or right arrow to cycle through the available images. Click the box next to "No Thumbnail" to choose no image.
@Mentions are a great way to get someone’s attention or direct other readers to a particular user. When you tag a person with an @mention they will receive a notification - see Notifications . @Mentions are public, visible to everyone and link to the user's profile.
Use #hashtags to categorize and add context to your posts.
When someone clicks on the hashtag in your wall post they will be taken to a search screen showing other content on the site tagged with the same keyword.
Comments allow community members to have a discussion with you and with each other. When you write a new post, members can respond by adding a comment. When your post receives a comment or someone replies to one of your comments you will receive a notification.
Rich text formatting can be used when adding comments, allowing you to format text, include bullet points, emojis, and more. This ensures clear and consistent communication across different types of content in the Activity Stream.
Note: To use rich text formatting in comments, make sure the Enable rich text HTML editor in comments setting is enabled in General Settings.
As a sitewide configuration, you can choose how photos are added in wall posts and comments. The WallPostPhotoLocation system property determines whether photos are displayed inline with wall text and comments, or saved directly to a designated Space album.
To set this option for your site, navigate to Control Panel > System > System Properties and set the value of the WallPostPhotoLocation property to either "body" or "album".
Set the WallPostPhotoLocation system property to "body" to enable photos to be embedded inline with wall posts and comments. This setting allows you to add photos to your own wall, other users’ walls, or Space walls. Inline photo embedding is also supported in comments, enabling you to include visuals directly in posts or your profile's Activity Stream.
To add a photo, click the image icon in the toolbar.
Drag and drop an image, upload it from your desktop, or select one from your albums to embed it within the wall post or comment.
Set the WallPostPhotoLocation system property to "album" to save photos added to wall posts directly to the chosen Space album. Available only for Space Activity Streams, this option does not support inline embedding or adding photos to comments.
You can post to another user's Activity Stream if they are connected to you. They will receive a notification about the wall post. Post on someone's wall to ask a question, start a conversation, or follow up on something.
To post on someone's wall, first visit their profile then click Activity Stream.
Enter a message in the What's on your mind? textbox, then click Post.
Note: Only the author of the wall post can edit the wall post. Mentioned user can delete the wall post only.
You can filter your activity stream to display All New, Wall Posts, New Content, Recognition, Article, Blog, Case, Event, File, Forum, Idea, Photo, Poll, Space, Survey, User, Video, or Wiki.
