The org chart is a visualization of your organization's structure. The org chart allows you to see how departments are structured, how departments relate to one another, and how each person fits into your organization. The org chart shows manager and employee relationships and helps you find the people you need with the expertise and knowledge to get things done. The org chart is always up-to-date and anyone in your organization can view the org chart at anytime. The org chart makes it easy for you to find the right person to collaborate and share ideas with.
The org chart is automatically generated using the "Reports to" user profile field. Each person is displayed as a node with their image, name, and job title. Click a person in the chart to load their user card and expand the chart with their direct reports. Double click a person to center the chart on them.
Note: For org charts with more than 100 users, we recommend setting System Properties > OrganizationalChartLevelsCount to 2 or 3.
The org chart user card shows the bio and contact information of the selected person. You can customize the org chart user card in Control Panel > Manage People > User Profiles > Org Chart .
You can set default display settings and valid org chart leaders in Control Panel > People > User Profiles > Org Chart .
To view a list of someone's direct reports, visit their profile and click Relationships > Direct Reports.
You can customize the list on the Direct Reports page by editing the People List Template in Control Panel > People > User Profiles.
You can have multiple org charts on your intranet, with multiple leaders who don't report to anyone. Browse > People > Org chart will display one org chart. The other org charts can be accessed by going to the profile of a user who is in the org chart, and clicking the Org chart button. You can link to all the org charts in a Page Builder page or anywhere else.
Setting up Multiple Org Charts Example
Alexis, Mia, and Raymond are team leaders. Alexis, Mia, and Raymond don't report to anyone.
In Control Panel > People > User Profiles > Org chart > Valid org chart leaders, we enter Alexis, Mia, and Raymond.
Because Alexis is the first person we entered, her org chart loads when we visit Browse > People > Org chart. The URL is https://myintranet.communifire.com/people/organizational-chart.
When we visit Mia or Raymond's profile, there is an Org chart button.
This opens Mia's org chart. The URL is https://myintranet.communifire.com/people/mia-w/organizational-chart.
We can copy the org chart URLs and link to the org charts in a Page Builder page or anywhere else. Rich Text Widget example:
Issue: Error generating org chartThere are # people with the ID #. IDs should not be duplicated.
This error occurs when a user reports to themselves. Follow the steps below to fix the error.
Issue: Error generating org chartThis person is not part of the org chart. Make sure s/he has a supervisor assigned.
This error can occur when cached org chart data is outdated. This can happen when a lot of org chart changes are made at once. (For example, by updating users' Reports to fields via bulk import.)
To fix this error, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced System Utilities and click Restart Site. This will refresh the site cache, including org chart data.
