User roles help you organize people into groups and assign permissions. These roles are most commonly used for controlling permissions, for automatic space assignment using User Space Assignment Rules , and for workflow approval steps. Add new top level roles in the Control Panel.

• Role name: A name for the role. This name appears in the Roles widget on the User Profiles page.
• Description: A description of the role. The description is for administrative purposes.
• Image: Upload an image for the role. The image appears in the Roles widget. An image is optional.

  Note: The role image is not used as the default profile photo. To update the default profile photo, go to Control Panel > People > User Profiles > Edit Edit Profile Page , edit the Profile photo field, and upload a default image in the Advanced tab.
