Badges are a way for users to be recognized for their contributions to the community. Some may be earned through specific actions in the community. Other badges can be awarded by users for actions that merit recognition.
You can see an overview of your recognition in My Apps and Tools > Recognition.
The Insights tab shows recognition statistics and badges you have earned and been awarded.
Filter insights to see the statistics and badges earned in a certain time period.
Click on a badge to see the badge summary and when you earned it. The summary includes the badge name, a short description of what the badge is about, the date you earned it or were awarded it and, if awarded, who awarded it to you. From there you can click View details to see the full detail page for the badge (see the Earning Badges section below) or click to view the wall post from when you got the badge, to see what others have said about it.
The Challenges tab displays challenge-based badges and shows whether or not you have completed a challenge. You can also see how many users have completed the challenge.
Click a badge to open the full detail page on how to earn the badge and who has already earned it.
You can also see your recognition in your user profile. Open your profile then click Recognition.
You can configure settings to include a Direct reports tab in My Recognition. The Direct reports tab shows a leaderboard of your direct reports. You will see how many badges your direct reports have sent and received, their points, and their rank.
Admin Note: The Direct reports tab is disabled by default. To enable the Direct reports tab, go to Control Panel > System > System Properties, search for ShowProfileRecognitionDirectReportsTab, and set it to true.
Badges can be earned by performing specific challenges in the community. These are set up by badge and can vary by community. To find out what badges are available to earn, check out the Challenges tab in My Recognition. Click the badge name and you'll see a full description of the badge, if you've ever earned it before, and the steps to earn it. If you've completed any of the steps, you'll see that there too. Lastly you can see on that page if any other users have already earned it, to spur you on to greatness.
When you complete all the steps required to earn a badge you'll be notified. Depending on the settings for the badge, that notification may just go to you and your friends. If it's a "big deal" then it will be published on My Activity Stream , to celebrate in your contributions and provide kudos for your accomplishments. You can click on the badge in the wall post to open the full detail page, showing again who has earned this badge and how you too can earn it.
Some badges can be awarded to users in personal recognition for their contribution to the community.
To award a badge to someone, click Create > Recognition.
Enter a user to award a badge to.
Select the recognition program and choose the badge.
Enter a message. Depending on the badge, a wall post will either be shared with the recipient, their friends and you, or everyone in your community. Your message will be the first comment on the wall post, so everyone will know what the user did to deserve this recognition.
Note: Some badges may be configured so that they can only be earned or awarded to a user once.
You can also award someone a badge by visiting their profile. Click Recognize in the profile header.
To remove a badge, visit the person's profile and click the Recognition tab in the left menu. Click on the badge then click Remove. The badge is removed immediately on clicking Remove - there is no confirmation window.
Manage recognition programs, badges, challenges, recognition pages, and badge permissions in Control Panel > People > Control Panel: Recognition .
