You can communicate one-on-one with other users or chat in a group using instant messaging.
Add People to Conversation
The chat popup appears in the lower right corner and displays a list of online users. Users that are set to online, away, and do not disturb appear in the chat popup. Click a user to open a chat with them. You can enable or disable the chat popup in Control Panel > System > General Settings > Site Settings > Show chat popup.
Chat statuses let people know your availability. Regardless of your chat status, you will receive chat notifications. Chat statuses also appear in Browse People .
Online: Indicates you are available. You appear in the chat popup and the Online Now widget on My Activity Stream .
Away: Indicates you are not available. You appear in the chat popup and the Online Now widget on My Activity Stream.
Do not disturb: Indicates you are online but not available. You appear in the chat popup and the Online Now widget on My Activity Stream.
Invisible: Removes you from the chat popup and the Online Now widget on My Activity Stream.

Email notifications are sent for chat messages when you are not online and have email notifications enabled in Preferences . If you have Communifire open in a browser or the app, email notifications will not be sent.
