Is it possible to have a featured image for a discussion?

  • gskamau

    Hey Richie,

Discussions don't have featured images. You can add images and attach files to your post.

  • tpeluso

hello -- the bummer is you can't use many of the templates in the widget and it limits the overall use of discussions -- there should be a way to have an image associated to a discussion that shows up in feeds.

Do you have any suggestions on getting around the limitations?

  • mtrujillo

    Hey Teresa,

Allowing users to post images for discussions could create a bad UI experience, most users do not know how to add a nice stock photo for their discussion.

It would take effort from a developer on your side, but they could possibly randomize preset images/icon/colors in a custom Page Builder  template using javascript.

hi matt -- so it can't work like it does for a wiki or a blog post.  they use featured images.  i thought it would be a similar function.

  • mtrujillo

Wikis, blogs, and articles are formal content types, meaning the content created is prepared and polished for publishing to the masses which is why they have featured image functionality. Discussions are informal and created on the fly by general users in your community when they have a question, a featured image isn't available for discussions because general users typically don't have a well prepared image for what they are asking for in the discussion.

Check out the example titles below, they may help clarify the usage of each content type.
