SSL Certificates

An SSL certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates a website's identity and enables an encrypted connection. Every website you visit will have an SSL certificate applied to the site. SSL certificates do not last forever, and every SSL certificate has an expiration date. When your SSL certificate expires, you will no longer be able to access your site.  

To check when your SSL certificate expires, take the following steps:

On Chrome: 

1) Click the lock icon next to your site's URL. Then choose Certificate.

2) Locate the date range shown in the Valid From section. Make sure you renew your certificate before the final date! 

On Firefox

1) Click the lock icon, then the Connection Secure button. 

2) Click on More Information

3) Click View Certificate

4) Locate the Validity section. Make sure you renew your certificate before the final date! 

On Edge: 

1) Click the lock icon. Then click Connection Is Secure

2) Click the certificate icon

3) Locate the Valid From section. Make sure you renew your certificate before the final date! 

Submitting Your Purchased SSL Certificate

Once you have your SSL purchased, please create a private support case 

Include the following information in the case:

• Your full domain name.
• If you do have an SSL certificate with a .pfx file extension, zip the file up and attach it to the case. 
  
  • Provide the password for the .pfx file.
  • Note that for a custom domain like community.acme.org, you can provide a wildcard SSL certificate that covers all subdomains (e.g. *.acme.org).
• If you do not have a .pfx file, we will need to create a CSR for you. You will use this CSR to re-key your certificate so it can be imported into our server.  This should be the same information you used with your SSL provider.
  • Common Name (usually your domain name)
  • Organization
  • Organizational Unit
  • City
  • State
  • Country

• Once the certificate has been rekeyed with the CSR, please upload it to the case. 
• If you are prompted for a server type when downloading the certificate, please choose IIS
