The rich text editor is where you write articles, blogs, wikis, and other content. It has color palettes, tables, emojis, a word count, keyboard shortcuts, and code highlighting.

Color Picker

Make your content colorful. With the color picker, you can choose a ready-made shade or enter an exact color with the HEX color input tool. Use it to match your organization’s branding or to make your content stand out.

To choose an exact color, go to Format > Text color > and click the palette icon. Enter a HEX number, or pick a shade from the color area. When you have the color you want, click “Save”.

Emoji Library

The editor has over a hundred emojis.

To add an emoji, click the emoji icon in the toolbar, or go to Insert > Emojis, and pick the one you want.

Format Tables

Tables organize and display data. Select the number of columns and rows you need, adjust the style and colors if you wish, and publish. Here’s how to create a new table.

Go to Insert > Table > and hover over the grid to select the number of columns and rows you need.

To resize your table, drag its grid lines. For exact measurements, select the table so the edit bar appears, then click “Table properties” and enter the sizes. The edit bar also lets you add and remove columns and rows as you work. 

To add color or change the border style, go to Table Properties > Advanced > and adjust the border style, border color, and background color.

Word Count Tool

To count the words and characters in your content, or in one section of it, go to Tools > Word count.

The Word Count tool shows the total words, the characters without spaces, and the characters with spaces for the whole document. To count one section, highlight it before you open the Word Count tool. Its counts appear under “Selection”.

Copy/Paste Formatting

When you paste from Microsoft Word or Google Docs, the editor asks whether to keep the formatting. Select Keep formatting to keep it. Content pasted from a web page is cleaned up without asking.

Adding Code Highlights

In the Rich Text editor, you can add syntax highlighting to code snippets. Highlighting colors the parts of the code so technical content is easier to read. To change which languages appear in the code highlight dropdown menu, set the CodeHighlightLanguages System Property.

1. Go to Control Panel > System > System Properties.
2. Search for CodeHighlightLanguages.
3. Enter the languages, separated by a vertical bar (|). Write each language as its display name and its highlight.js value, separated by a colon (:). For example:

   html:html|sql:sql|c#:cs|json:json|javascript:javascript|xml:xml|css:css

4. Click Save.

What Happens to Your HTML When You Save

When you save content, Axero filters its HTML, the code behind the page. Anything outside the allowed set is removed without a warning. The save still succeeds, and the content is stored without whatever was stripped.

• Script tags are not supported inside content. This is deliberate, and it is what stops someone pasting code that runs in other people's browsers.
• Unrecognized elements are removed, which is why some third-party embed codes disappear after publishing. Custom player elements are the common case.
• Inline style blocks and unrecognized attributes are removed as well, so pasting from a web page or a document can lose formatting the editor cannot express.
• Iframes are kept but restricted. An iframe is a frame that shows another web page inside your page. This is the one case where the content stays but still does not work. Any iframe whose host (the site it loads from) is not on the editor's exclusion list is rewritten to sandbox="", the maximum restriction: no scripts and no same-origin access. The iframe is still in the source and still on the page, but the browser blocks everything inside it. The embed shows as an empty or inert box, and the browser console reports a sandbox error. To fix it, add the provider's host to the TinyMCESandboxIframeExclusions system property. Two details matter. The list matches the exact hostname, with only a leading www. stripped, so scribehow.com does not cover embed.scribehow.com. And the property replaces the built-in list instead of adding to it, so the twelve hosts it ships with have to stay in the value. The safe edit is to append to what is already in the field.

If something you pasted is missing after you save, one of the first three is almost always why. If it is there but does not work, it is the fourth. For videos, see Embed Video for the method that works. An iframe copied from a video's Embed button in Axero points at your own Axero site, not at the video provider. So the host to add to TinyMCESandboxIframeExclusions is your site's own address, which is not one of the twelve hosts the list ships with.

The iframe rule runs earlier than the section title suggests. It is applied when content is loaded into the editor, both when you open it and when you paste. The rewritten attribute is then stored the next time the content is saved. Three consequences follow. Opening an existing page in the editor and saving it restricts an iframe that worked before, even if nobody touched it. Editing the sandbox attribute in the browser's developer tools looks like a fix but is not, because it changes only the copy in that one browser session and never reaches the stored content. And content that never passes through the rich text editor is never restricted at all, which is why the same embed works in a Page Builder Raw HTML widget. That widget is the practical workaround while a host is being added to the property.

One iframe the property cannot rescue. When the src has no host, as with a relative or same-site address such as /files/report.pdf, the check has nothing to match, and the iframe is always restricted. No entry in the exclusion list can exempt it. For that case, use something outside the rich text editor: a Page Builder Raw HTML widget, or the dedicated iframe widget.
