Promoted Search puts specific content at the top of search results, so members see important information first. Promoted content is highlighted in yellow with a "Promoted" tag, so members know it is high-priority content.

Setting Promote Permissions

Permissions decide who can make content appear in Promoted Search.

Promote is a site-level permission only. It cannot be granted to a role that is scoped to a single space, so the action shows up only for people who hold a site-level role that has it. This is why a space administrator or moderator can manage everything else in their space and still not see the option. To let them promote content, add the Promote permission to a site-level role they also hold.

1. Go to Control Panel > System > System Permissions.
2. Select which roles can promote content:
   
3. Once you save the permissions, the selected roles have Promoted Search rights.

Promoting Content

1. Open the content you want to promote (an album, article, blog, event, file, idea, photo, video, or wiki).
2. Open the gear menu on the content and select Promote in Search.
   
3. Enter the search keywords that should bring up this content as a promoted result.
   
4. Click Save.
   
5. When people search for those terms, the content will appear at the top of search results as promoted content.
   

   

Promoting Page Builder Pages

Page Builder pages are promoted using a slightly different process:

1. Choose the Page Builder page you want to promote and click Edit.

2. On the Details tab, open the Search Fields section.
3. In the Promoted Search Keywords field, enter keywords to prioritize the page in search results.
   

   

4. Click Publish changes.

The page then appears at the top of search results for those keywords.

The page has to be in the search index first. The search index is the list of pages that search can return, and a page joins it only when Include in search results is checked in the page's own details. Promoted keywords only reorder pages the index already returns. A page with that box unchecked never appears for the keywords, whatever you enter here. The box is easy to miss because it sits higher up the same Details tab, outside Search Fields. See Create Page Builder Page for where it is.

Editing promoted keywords later

The Control Panel calls this feature Promoted Content. To see all content that is promoted and edit its search keywords:

1. Go to Control Panel > Content > Promoted Content.
   
2. Select the pen icon next to the content you want to edit.
   
3. Edit, add, or remove lines, then click Save.
