Use these steps to hide or remove profile fields on the Edit Profile and User Profile pages.
To stop people from changing a profile field, remove it from the Edit Profile page.
Example use case: Your intranet uses single sign-on (SSO), where people log in with one company account, and user data comes from your SSO provider. Your SSO provider is the source of truth.
To stop a field from showing on user profiles, remove it from the User Profile page.
Example use case: Your organization created an "I would like to be contacted about volunteer opportunities." checkbox profile field. You use it to collect email addresses for a third-party mailing list, so it doesn't need to show on user profiles.
To let only authorized users change a profile field, hide it from everyone else.
Example use case: Your organization bulk imported users with their work information, such as email, department, job title, and manager. Regular employees should update only their personal information, such as name and about me. Only site administrators and moderators can edit work information.
To let only authorized users see a profile field, hide it from everyone else.
Example use case: Your intranet has both internal employees and external contractors, and only internal employees should see phone numbers on user profiles.
