Featured images appear on content, in the Activity Stream, on content detail pages, and in content list widgets. 

Your Featured Image sizes can be customized for your site. Depending on your needs; you can set your images width in pixels. Our system will adjust the image to match a 4:3 ratio, so a width of 1200px will automatically result in a height of 900px. If your image is not in a 4:3 ratio at time of uploading; you will be able to select which portion of the image to use. When uploading photos, your images will be adjusted to fit these sizes.

1. Navigate to Control Panel > System > General Settings > Advanced Settings
   
2. Enter in your desired Widths
   
3. Save System Settings
   

Our recommended sizes for featured images and album covers are:

• Suggested aspect ratio: 4:3
• Suggested dimensions: 1200x900
• Suggested file size: 300KB

You can use the following tools to compress image files without significant quality loss. Compressing images can help you have high-resolution photos that are smaller in file size which can have an impact on your page load time.

How to Add a Stock Album for Featured Images

You can make certain albums available to everyone for use when adding featured images to content. You can upload stock images to an album in a space, then make the album available to everyone to select featured images from. Make it easy and painless for your content creators to add beautiful images to content.

1. Open the album.
2. In the URL, copy the album ID. This is the second number in the URL. (e.g. in the URL https://documentation.axero.com/spaces/252/human-resources/album/6793/admin/hr-conference, 6793 is the album ID.)
3. Click the gear icon > Control Panel > System > General Settings > Advanced Settings.
4. In Stock photo albums (csv), enter the album ID. Separate multiple IDs with commas. (e.g. 6793,284,2929)
5. Click Save System Settings.

Once settings are saved, the stock albums will appear in the Choose from albums tab when adding a featured image to content.

Featured Images and Accessibility

A featured image has no alt-text field. There is nowhere to describe it, and the alt attribute falls back to the content title, so screen reader users get the title read twice rather than a description of the picture.

Two things follow for anyone working to an accessibility standard. Do not rely on a featured image to carry information, because a reader using assistive technology will not receive it. And where the picture matters, describe it in the body of the content instead, or place it in the body as a normal image, where you can set its alt text.
