Before you start: LinkedIn retired the sign-in product these steps depend on, effective August 1, 2023. LinkedIn now offers a different sign-in product that Axero does not yet support, so these steps may not work for a LinkedIn app you create today. If you are setting up LinkedIn login for the first time, open a case with the Axero team before you begin. If LinkedIn login already works on your site, keep using it, and open a case if it stops.

Axero supports LinkedIn integration for single sign-on (SSO), out-of-the-box. This page walks you through configuring a LinkedIn App, shows you how to enable LinkedIn integration, and demonstrates the LinkedIn login process.

LinkedIn SSO setup is estimated to take 1-2 hours. Once you complete the guide, LinkedIn SSO will be active on your intranet. For more information or assistance from the Axero team, submit a private case.

Configure LinkedIn App

  1. Visit the LinkedIn application page to create an application for your intranet.
  2. Click Create app.
  3. Fill in the following fields:
    • App name
    • LinkedIn Page (Associated company)
    • App description
    • App logo
  4. Check I have read and agree to these terms.
  5. Click Create app.
  6. Click Products.
  7. Select Sign in with LinkedIn.
  8. Check I have read and agree to these terms.
  9. Click Add product.
  10. Click Auth.
  11. In the OAuth 2.0 settings section, click the edit icon for Authorized redirect URLs for your app.
  12. Click Add redirect URL.
  13. Enter your site URL followed by /oauth2/linkedin/callback (for example, https://myintranet.com/oauth2/linkedin/callback)
  14. Click Update.
  15. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret.

Enable LinkedIn Login in Axero

  1. In Axero, click the gear icon > Control Panel > System > General Settings.
  2. Expand the Social Integration Settings section.
  3. Enter the Client ID in the LinkedIn integration API key field.
  4. Enter the Client Secret in the LinkedIn integration Secret field.
  5. Check Enable LinkedIn integration.
  6. Check Enable 3rd party login.
  7. Click Save System Settings.

Note: once LinkedIn login is on, signing in with LinkedIn creates an Axero account for anyone who does not already have one. Axero matches a LinkedIn account to an existing person by email address first. Whether a newly created account is active right away depends on the Auto approve members setting on the same General Settings page. There is no separate switch that limits LinkedIn login to people who already have an account.

Note: LinkedIn login needs the EnableSecurityProtocolTLS11OrHigher system property turned on. It is on by default, so check it only if someone turned it off. Go to Control Panel > System > System Properties and confirm the value is the word true. Axero reads only the words true and false here, so a value of 1 is not read as true. Your site reads this setting only when it starts up, so if you change it, ask the Axero team to restart your site before you test. On some hosted setups this setting is managed by Axero rather than in System Properties, so open a case if the value looks correct and LinkedIn login still fails.
