Badges encourage participation in your intranet. You can create challenge badges that are earned through completing specific actions in your intranet (defined by you). Each challenge badge has a process that specifies the activity steps a user must complete to earn the badge. Or create kudos badges that people can award to one another. 

1. Click the gear icon > Control Panel > People > Recognition.
2. Click Add badge.
3. Fill in the following:
   • Title: The title appears in Recognition pages and Activity Stream pages.
   • Summary: The summary appears in badge summaries, in the wall post announcements, and in the email people get when receiving the badge.
   • Description: The description appears on the badge detail page.
4. Click Add image to upload an image. Click Badge Stock to select an image from the icon gallery. Upload a square PNG with a transparent background, 100 by 100 pixels, which is the size of every badge in the Badge Stock. Badges are displayed at fixed widths between 25 and 100 pixels in badge lists and on content detail pages, so a smaller image is stretched to fill the space and looks blurry. The badge detail page shows the image at its uploaded size, up to the width of the column it sits in, so a much larger file appears larger rather than sharper.
5. Select the Recognition Program the badge is under.
6. Check the Roles that can grant this award. Only people who hold one of the checked roles can award the badge. Site administrators and moderators are included only if their roles are checked. A person with none of the checked roles sees "No badge available" when they try to award it.
7. Check the following options:
   • Active: Allow people to earn this badge.
   • People can receive multiple times: Allow people to be awarded the badge multiple times. (If the badge can be awarded.)
   • Publicize in activity stream when awarded: The wall post for the badge will be visible by everyone in the intranet. If you leave this blank, the wall post will be visible to just the person receiving, their friends, and the person granting the badge.
8. Select a Challenge for the badge or create a new one. Refer to Badge Challenges for details about creating a new challenge.
9. Click Save.

Alternative Way

A recognition program manager can add a badge from the program itself, without opening the Control Panel. The form is the same one described above.

1. Click Browse > Recognition.
   
2. Select the recognition program.
   
3. Click the options button.
   
4. Click Badge, the item with a plus icon.
   
5. Fill in the form as described above and click Save.
