Copying a space will create a space with the same internal settings and none of the content or people. You can choose to keep content and people when you copy a space. If you copy a sub space of another space, your new space will be a sub space of the same space.

2) When copying a space, if the global navigation menu on the left is customized it will also be copied along with it to the new page. The copy keeps the exact addresses those tabs were given, and those addresses point at the space you copied from, so a visitor clicking one of the copied Link tabs is taken out of the new space and back into the original. Re-point each Link tab in the new space, or reset the menu with Edit navigation > Reset there. See Space Menu for how.
3) If the space copied has a Page Builder homepage, the new space will have the same homepage as well.
Copied content belongs to the new space. Including content creates independent copies that live at their own addresses in the new space. From that point the two spaces are separate: editing or deleting something in the copy does not touch the original, and vice versa. This is what makes the feature work for archiving a space and starting a fresh version of it.
The content copy runs in the background, after the new space itself has been created. On a large space the new one can look partly empty for several minutes. That is the copy still working, not a failure.
