When you create your Axero intranet site, selecting the right domain affects your site's accessibility, branding, and user experience. This guide explains the available domain options and how each one is configured.
Tip: You can start with an Axero subdomain to get up and running quickly, then migrate to a custom domain later. Ideally, complete the migration before configuring third-party integrations such as SSO or adding users.
You have three options when choosing your domain:
yourcompany.axero.io
intranet.yourdomain.com
yourintranetname.com
Important: Custom subdomains and custom domains must support third-party SSL certificates. Most providers (e.g., GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap) work with Axero. Squarespace domains do not support third-party certificates and are not compatible.
Choosing an Axero subdomain is the quickest way to get your site created and ready to build. Axero manages all DNS and SSL configuration, so no technical setup is required on your end.
After setup is complete, you will receive secure login credentials from your Technical Account Manager.
A custom subdomain uses your existing domain (e.g., intranet.yourdomain.com) to provide a branded experience. Axero manages SSL certificate renewals and site hosting. You are responsible for domain renewal and DNS record maintenance.
my.yourdomain.com
hub.yourdomain.com
portal.yourdomain.com
Important: Do not use "www" as your subdomain prefix. This can cause SSL certificate conflicts and redirect issues. Sub-subdomains (e.g., team.intranet.yourdomain.com) are also not recommended due to DNS complexity and potential certificate validation problems.
team.intranet.yourdomain.com
20.22.83.75
AXERO-EU-ALB-1931466378.eu-north-1.elb.amazonaws.com
nslookup
Tip: If your organization already has a wildcard SSL certificate for your domain (e.g., *.yourdomain.com), you can provide it to Axero instead of generating a new certificate. A wildcard certificate covers all subdomains under your main domain, which simplifies certificate management if you use multiple subdomains. Contact your Technical Account Manager to coordinate wildcard certificate installation.
*.yourdomain.com
After setup is complete, your Technical Account Manager will personalize your site based on the information gathered during your Kickoff session and provide you with secure access credentials.
A dedicated domain (e.g., yourintranetname.com) creates a unique, professional location for your intranet. This option provides maximum branding flexibility and a completely independent web presence. Axero manages SSL certificate renewals and site hosting. You are responsible for domain purchase, renewal, and DNS record maintenance.

Once your site is set up, you can view your domain configuration through the Axero Control Panel. Navigate to Control Panel > System > Domain Configuration.
Critical: Domain configuration changes should only be made in coordination with your Axero Technical Account Manager or Support team. Incorrect changes can result in site downtime.
DNS changes are not taking effect
DNS changes can take 24 to 48 hours to propagate globally. During this time, some users may see the old configuration while others see the new one. If your site is not accessible after 48 hours, verify that the DNS records match the values listed in this guide using nslookup or a public DNS checker.
Incorrect record type
Use A records for all root domains and US subdomains. EU customers should use CNAME records for subdomains only.
Conflicting records
Remove any existing A or CNAME records for the same hostname that point to different locations. Conflicting records can cause intermittent connectivity issues.
Subdomain conflicts
Ensure the subdomain is not already in use for other services (e.g., email, marketing landing pages). Existing records for the same subdomain will conflict with the Axero DNS entry.
TTL settings
Lower TTL values (300 to 3600 seconds) allow for faster DNS updates. If you plan to make DNS changes, reduce the TTL in advance to minimize downtime during the transition.
Certificate validation fails
DNS records must be in place and fully propagated before SSL certificate generation can complete. Verify that the records match exactly and that no conflicting records exist.
Mixed content warnings
Ensure all resources (images, scripts, stylesheets) on your site use HTTPS URLs. Mixed HTTP/HTTPS content triggers browser warnings.
Certificate renewal
Axero handles automatic SSL certificate renewal. However, the DNS records provided during initial setup must remain unchanged. Removing or modifying these records will prevent renewal.
If you need assistance with domain configuration or are planning a domain change for an active site, submit a support case. Domain changes for live sites require coordination with the Axero team to minimize disruption to your users.
