# User Visibility Options

## User Visibility Options

There are 4 visibility settings for user profile fields:

1. **Only Me** \(called Private on the two API pages below\): only visible to the person

2. **Connections Only**: only visible to the person and their connections

3. **Community**: only visible to people who are signed in

4. **Public**: visible to guests too. This option appears only on a site that is open to the public.

These settings apply only when the **EnableProfileFieldsCustomVisibility** system property is turned on. [Edit Profile](https://my.axerosolutions.com/spaces/5/axero-documentation/wiki/view/21628/edit-profile "Edit Profile") has the steps.

The Axero team sets these for you by uploading a CSV file to the database. You cannot run this first load yourself. To request it, open a [Support Case](https://my.axerosolutions.com/spaces/77/axero-online-support/cases/add-edit-case/0) with the file attached. The CSV you provide lists users \(rows\), fields \(columns\), and the visibility setting you want for each \(private, community, or public\).

Each person can also change the settings on their own profile from [Edit Profile](https://my.axerosolutions.com/spaces/5/axero-documentation/wiki/view/21628/edit-profile "Edit Profile"). To change them for other people, a site administrator uses the API \(the connection other systems use to work with Axero\). There are two API calls: one sets several fields at once, and one sets a single field.

These settings hide the value of a field. They do not take a person out of search or the people directory. That is a separate choice each person makes with **Share my profile**.
