Even when one knows the existing website is not holding up and it’s time to switch to a better, more robust software platform there are considerations which can weigh against moving a community to a new site. One of the main considerations is what the impact of moving a site and having changed or new URL’s would mean. Would it make navigation difficult since users were familiar with older links? Will it hit all your previous search engine optimization efforts since the previous URL’s were well indexed in search results?
The Communifire admin interface covers that concern by providing administrators a URL mapping section with which all previous URL’s which need to be retained can be mapped to the corresponding page on the new site. The URL Mapper can be found under the “System Settings” section of the Admin Panel. URL’s can be mapped along with the type of URL redirect and managed on a single page without having to leave the system. A perfect solution to ensure you can retain the URL’s that are important to your site.
Would this work even if the domain named changed? Thanks!
